چکیده

Ecological restoration projects have traditionally focused on vegetation as both a means (seeding, planting, and substrate amendments) and ends (success based upon primary productivity and vegetation diversity). This vegetation-centric approach to ecological restoration stems from an historic emphasis on esthetics and cost but provides a limitedmeasure of total ecosystem functioning and overlooks alternative ways to achieve current and future restoration targets. We advocate a shift to planning beyond the plant community and toward the physical and biological components necessary to initiate autogenic recovery, then guiding this process through the timely introduction of top predators and environmentalmodifications such as soil amendments and physical structures for animal nesting and refugia.

Research Article: Trophic dynamics analysis and ecosystem structure for some fish species of northern Oman Sea

In the present study, a trophic structure model for some fish species of the northern Oman Sea is developed through using mass balance modeling software, Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE). In this model, we simulated 16 functional groups spread across an area of 3998.20 km2 from 2017 to 2018. Mean trophic level in the area of the present study was 3.49. Values calculated for system omnivory and connect...

Evaluation and classification of trophic status in coastal waters of Homozgan province using trophic index Scale (Trixcs) and unscale (Untrixcs)

One of the most important issues in environmental management of coastal waters is the evaluation of Eutrophication. In this study, the trophic status of coastal waters of Hormozgan province was evaluated using Scale (TRIXCS) and Unscale (UNTRIXCS) trophic indices in 2012. The results showed that TRIXCS values were in the range of 3.6 to 5.9 (in the area 1 Mezo-Eutroph, areas 2 and 3 Mezotroph, ...

Ecological Restoration, Global Challenges, Social Aspects and Environmental Benefits

This book consists of 14 chapters covering important aspects in regards to various terrestrial ecosystems, wetlands, river systems, mine site rehabilitation, marsh ecology and heavy metals pollution. Also aims to fill some of the information gaps in ecological restoration, particularly in under-researched ecosystems around the world. Restoration ecology emerged as a separate field in ecology in...

Ecological Theory and Community Restoration Ecology

Community ecological theory may play an important role in the development of a science of restoration ecology. Not only will the practice of restoration benefit from an increased focus on theory, but basic research in community ecology will also benefit. We pose several major thematic questions that are relevant to restoration from the perspective of community ecological theory and, for each, i...

Habitat restoration as mitigation for lost production at multiple trophic levels

Seagrass beds and salt marshes are important in the life histories of many fish, invertebrates, and aquatic birds, such that population size and production of these organisms can be limited by the loss of these habitats. Therefore, restoring seagrass or salt marsh would be expected to benefit species dependent on these resources. Following the ‘North Cape’ oil spill of January 1996 in Rhode Isl...
